Master's programme
courses, master classes and workshops; a breeding ground for professionals
As a centre of expertise for professional dancers, choreographers and
students of dance, Danshuis Station Zuid is throwing its doors wide
open with its programme of courses, master classes and workshops. Daily
public dance training sessions in classical ballet and modern dance are
a part of the programme, as are our workshops for young dance makers by
renowned choreographers.
These daily sessions will start in 2010. Although we offer them on a
structural basis, the training sessions do not form a course and
participants are free to decide which sessions they would like to
participate in. The sessions are scheduled for the mornings, from 10:30
am to 12:00, and they will be available to advanced students of dance
and professional dancers.
In addition to these daily sessions we will be offering a periodic
programme of master classes around topical forms of dance. These highly
inspiring sessions will be open to professional dancers and advanced
students of dance. For each of these master classes we will be
attracting established dance specialists.
Guy Cools
In addition, we will be setting up a series of workshops specifically
aimed at dance makers for the spring of 2010. During this period, the
well-known dance dramaturge Guy Cools (who works with choreographers
Akram Khan and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui) will be coming to stay with
Danshuis Sation Zuid for two week-long visits. The morning programmes
will each be available to around 20 dance makers. During the afternoon
sessions, four of them will receive a tailor-made individual dance
maker’s coaching session. If you are interested please contact our
dance house.
Dans Coaching
Completely personal, or online
The personal coaching of professional choreographers within our work
field is high on the Danshuis Station Zuid agenda. For this part of our
dance coaching programme we intend to work with a group of people who
will offer their services as coaches, mentors or dramaturges to
participants for their personal development, the transfer of
experience, and their intellectual enrichment.
This dance coaching is offered on an individual basis, so it is
completely geared towards the needs of the participant. Whatever the
participant needs will determine the course. This means that the
coaching we offer can range from assisting with a project, help during
a process of creating dance, or support in the development of dance
concepts, to a joint reflection on the participants’ achievements. But
it could just as easily deal with developing managerial skills or
business leadership for dance projects. The possibilities are endless.
We offer this form of dance coaching on request and by invitation only. Please contact our dance house for further information.
Aside from this personal coaching, Danshuis Station Zuid will be
starting its online dance coaching in the autumn of 2009. Through our
website www.centraaldansstation.com a unique site will become available
for the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of experiences between
dance amateurs, dance professionals, dance makers and other dance
enthusiasts.
Dance Laboratory
The place for research
Danshuis Station Zuid’s Dance Laboratory is a place for professional
dance makers’ research that is not intended directly for dance
productions or a public performance. Our Dance Laboratory offers
professionals the opportunity to take a close look at the research
questions that are specific to their process of creation. We will be
inviting both emerging artists and experienced ones. Artists will also
be able to submit their own projects for our Dance Laboratory.
The Dance Laboratory can deal with all kinds of things. The coherence
between musical composition and the composition of movements for
example, or a research into new musical sources within dance; a renewal
of the participant’s creative inspiration or the development of new
dance techniques. Based on their personal research question and with
guidance from well-known professionals, established artists as well as
young talent will have the opportunity to work on their growth within
this setting.
A good example of a laboratory project is the research into the
relationship between musical composition and the composition of dance
in ‘Arr.’, a project that ran between 2007 and 2008 in which we
collaborated with Productiehuis Brabant and MuziekLab Brabant. We
estimate we will have room for three such research projects each year,
and we are open to suggestions.
