Joost Vrouenraets received the Award for Up-and-Coming Talent of the ‘Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht 2008’ a year ago. He invested the prize money - made available by the city of Maastricht - into his new production 5MB, which premiered during the festival.
5MB comprises two parts. Five is about rational aspects of human life. It represents logic, ratio and concerns, in particular about rituals in human life. MoonBoards is about the emotional side of human being. The main theme in this part is the central role of the ego in relationships.
To create both parts, Joost has addressed architects from the province of Limburg, where the dance festival has its roots. Architect Mathieu Bruls designed the five tables figuring prominently in especially Five. The tables mark out the space being used and above all, they determine the movement dynamics. Architect Erol Öztan conceived the set for MoonBoards.
