Every year Station Zuid creates a custom-made programme for the ‘Dans in den Elzent’ festival for site-specific dance. In 2008 we presented four different consecutive performances in a very accessible set-up in the multi-flexible Philips auditorium. We turned the auditorium upside down, took out all the seats and brought in all the dance! Spectators could follow their own compass in walking around the space to see the different solos and duets. It was as close to dace as people could come!
Dancer Jesús de Vega Gomez, who has danced in several performances since the founding of Station Zuid, was able to create his first solo in a laboratory project. Four weeks of studio time supervised by coach Dirk Dumon gave us: Disappear here. “Sometimes to find your own light we have to face darkness, allowing it to swallow us in order to emerge stronger. Sometimes we have to learn how to erase the notions of ourselves, surrender to the moment, disappear”.
The second part of the programme was the duet Proxemics, produced in 2007, by the then recently graduated young choreographer Arno Schuitemaker. In the autumn of 2008 this piece also toured as part of the series Nieuwbakken (new, fresh, freshly baked). The third part was a solo, Transmission by Joost Vrouenraets. As a closer for the programme we performed the show Newbodies.
